April 11-16, 2026

Each year, we take time to recognize and celebrate the importance of early childhood during the Week of the Young Child — a national initiative that highlights the needs of young children and their families while recognizing the programs and professionals who support them.

Early childhood is a time of rapid brain development, when the foundations for lifelong learning, behavior, and health are built. The experiences children have in these early years shape not only their individual futures, but also the strength and well-being of our communities across Minnesota.

Throughout this week, we honor the incredible work of early childhood educators, family educators, caregivers, and program leaders who create nurturing environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive. We also recognize the vital role families play as children’s first and most important teachers.

The Minnesota Association for Family and Early Education (MNAFEE) is proud to support and advocate for the professionals and programs that make high-quality early childhood and family education accessible across our state.

We are also pleased to share that Governor Tim Walz has officially proclaimed April 11–17 as the Week of the Young Child in Minnesota, reinforcing the importance of continued investment in early learning and family support.

As we celebrate this week, we invite you to reflect on the impact of early childhood education and join us in supporting strong, connected communities where every child and family can thrive.
